When a company thinks about buying promotional products it is usually in terms of them looking for business products or promotional merchandise to promote a product, service or an event such as a sales conference. The kind of products that will be considered for such an occasion might be leather conference folders or even promotional bottled water. In this informative article we will look at how a company can use promotional items to motivate their own staff and improve their productivity

It is a fact that the use of promotional merchandise works when they are used to increase sales or to develop brand awareness. Look at how promotional clothing such as printed T-shirts or embroidered polo shirts are used in so many different ways to do that. One only has to walk down any road or travel on a bus or train to see hundreds of good examples of branded clothing covered with logos and sales messages. Other more practical items such as promotional keyrings or printed pens are used to promote all types of items all over the business world and are distributed in their hundreds of thousands. The truth is that if these promotional gifts did not work then they would not be used.

Therefore it stands to reason that if promotional items are utilised by a firm to promote their goods and services they can also be applied internally. In many cases the personnel who work in companies that hand out free products may never be the recipients of such generosity. So if they do get some promotional items every now and then these products would have an impact. Take for example a sales department that is office based. Every salesperson will invariably have their own desk and pc and will have the normal paraphernalia like notepads, mousemats, pens and so forth necessary for such a task.

It stands to reason therefore that if the business were to add a small amount of product on to their next purchase of promotional products then they could use them internally as incentives for say good timekeeping, extra sales, improved work and so forth. Do not ever underestimate the power of a great piece of promotional merchandise and remember just because you may be indifferent to a free printed T-shirt, an embroidered polo shirt or a printed pen simply because you deal with these sort of things on a day-to-day basis it's certainly not the case for everyone.

Other areas within a firm that promotional merchandise can be utilised to improve relations may possibly be the stockroom or despatch departments. These areas of business are unlikely to get much in the way of promotional gifts because they are not usually in contact with customers. But the fact is that they do a very important job and a tiny bit of recognition with a few business products dropped in from time to time is going to be much appreciated by the employees working there.

The front reception area of a company is another place where strategically placed pieces of promotional products could work effectively. It's useful for a receptionist to be able to ask a visitor to sign in, give them a branded pen and tell them to keep it. This type of marketing creates a lot of goodwill for very little expense.
