One of the big things that let you know that you're making it is when you're able to get your own hot tub. When you go to a friend's house, a hotel or even the gym to enjoy one, it's all well and good, but being able to have one at home means you'll be able to enjoy it anytime you want, day or night. However, there are a few things you'll definitely want to know when you decide the time has come to purchase your own. Shopping for hot tubs involves understanding exactly what you're getting for your money and the phrase "you get what you pay for" definitely applies.

Since hot tub shopping is as much about style as it is about functionality, you will need to carefully decide what type of skirting you want. All hot tubs have to have skirting to hide the plumbing and the electrical pumps for the heater and the jets. This means you need to have skirting that looks as good as the area around it. Most times you will be use the same wood as the wood on your deck or privacy fence. This means you will usually have cedar or some type of dark stained wood since these will look and wear the best and will enable you to have a wider selection of tub types.

The type of tub you want will be based on a couple of factors. First and foremost when hot tub shopping is how many people you will want your tub to seat. If you don't plan to have huge house parties then a two to four person tub should be sufficient. Aside from the number of places you want, the type of material the tub is constructed of will be perhaps the most important decision you make. While most hot tubs are made of fiberglass that is supported by a sub-structure, if you take a look at stainless steel and copper as your materials of choice when shopping for a hot tub, you will find a much more durable material. Not only is metal sturdier than fiberglass, it isn't subject to weathering or to heavier weights as fiberglass is. Fiberglass tubs need to be replaced every few years whereas a good quality copper or stainless steel tub can last a lifetime.

Your only other choice to make is what kind and how many jets you want. Since most jets are adjustable and are capable of streaming a solid jet or to pulse the stream so you can have a massage at the same time. Shopping for hot tubs isn't a difficult process, but it's a process where you want your decisions to be right, especially when you're making an investment in your very own hot tub.
