Lord of the Rings Online is quite a difficult game to play solo, and leveling of a character in this fantasy universe is quite an important chunk of content for this game. Unfortunately, not many players have friends online all the time to help them run through the quests and many have trouble raising a character. That's why I've been working with a LOTRO leveling guide since the beginning to have a fast and smooth progress with any toon I started.
Although questing is a great way to level up a toon in LOTRO and the LOTRO guide I've been using has an excellent questing path, sometimes it's a good thing to alternate questing with grinding. Why? Because grinding at the right spots, at the right time you can get XP and money as well. So, here are a few great grinding spots in LOTRO.
1. One of the best grinding spots in Lord of the Rings Online is Goblin Town. This cave is placed in Misty Mts, to the North-East. There are loads of goblins and wargs inside and the respawn rate gradually increases with the number of players inside Goblin Town. You will never run out of mobs here, but you might want to find a safe spot to pull, because once they overwhelm you, it's very hard to escape and you'll probably die.
2. Another great place for grinding in Lord of the Rings Online is at Annuminas, South of Lake Evendim. You will get nice XP if you come to grind here at level 48-49 and if you have rested XP. The mobs die pretty easily and they can be pulled in groups of up to 5 mobs. They are all man-kin and they also drop recipes and reputation items. But if you come here for a grinding session, bring some level 50 anti-fear potions as most of them cast nasty fear dots and debuffs, making your life miserable.
3. Gazatu-ru. This spot is inside Mines of Moria, in the eastern part of Zelem-melek, South of Twenty-first Hall. The mobs here are all orc-kin, with a nice respawn rate and a fat, juicy loot table. You can make nice XP here and also get a few 10s of gold. However, be careful if you go to this place, as the most of the mobs are connected in groups of 2-3 and there are many patrols.
Although the grinding spots I mentioned above are excellent to grind for XP, as a general idea, grinding is not exactly the best alternative to leveling in Lord of the Rings Online. I strongly recommend questing, as the LOTRO leveling guide I've been speaking about has also provided me with a great questing itinerary. Following this guide's quest routes, my XP rate was always high and constant.
